Financial Aid Officer/Coordinator (Temporary Assignment)

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and student-focused Financial Aid Officer/Coordinator to support our Financial Aid team. This role will primarily focus on managing the Federal Work-Study Program , including accurate tracking of student hours, compliance with regulations, and timely processing of timesheets. Acting as a key liaison between students, supervisors, and the Financial Aid Office, this position ensures smooth program operations and a positive student experience.

This is a 3-month temporary assignment through December to cover a staff leave of absence.

Key Responsibilities

• Review, track, and reconcile student worker timesheets for compliance with Federal Work-Study regulations.
• Monitor student hours to ensure they do not exceed awarded allocations or program limits.
• Communicate with supervisors to confirm hours worked align with approved schedules and budgets.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for students and supervisors regarding Work-Study policies, processes, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date student employment and program records.
• Assist in preparing and submitting compliance reports per federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
• Support audits and reviews related to the Work-Study Program.
• Provide general administrative support within the Financial Aid Office, including student communications, recordkeeping, and program updates.

Schedule & Location

• Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Fully on-site (Brooklyn, NY) — may flex to 4 days on-site depending on need

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Experience working in a Financial Aid or Bursar Office strongly preferred.
• Open to candidates with backgrounds in HR (Payroll, Compliance, Audit) or Finance .
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask.
• Excellent communication skills; comfortable working with students, staff, and external partners.
• Proficiency with Excel; knowledge of Colleague ERP or other HigherEd software a plus.

Compensation

• Hourly rate: up to $30/hr, commensurate with experience.
